Lynchburg District Resource Center - Bring Some/Take Some

The Lynchburg District Resource Center is officially up and running. Just off the Narthex at Court Street UMC is a room that is filling up fast with books, small group study material and assorted information. Mell Davies will be there most Wednesday mornings to help you with questions. But don't wait until Wednesday, come anytime.

The rules are simple:

If you see something you like - take it.

  • When you are finished using it -- bring it back.
  • If you have something to share - bring it.
  • If you took something previously but didn't use it - bring it back.

For more information contact Mell Davies at: teacher1@SowingSeedsofFaith.com.

"Back-to-Basics at Beulah"

Summer Retreats and Work Camps for Youth, Children and Families

Beulah Retreat and Spiritual Life Center, located on the Lynchburg District of the United Methodist Church, is available for summer camps, retreats and work groups. The Center is located approximately 25 minutes from Lynchburg in rural Amherst County. Beulah offers maximum flexibility for churches to design and schedule a meaningful camp experience. We are currently reserving summer camp weeks and weekends, so contact us now to get your choice of dates.

Setting:   Beulah offers 4 lovely cabins in a wooded setting with cots to accommodate up to 40 people. The property provides a unique environment for meditation, worship and fellowship, both inside and out. Worship space includes a beautiful, historic chapel and an outdoor amphitheater. Full kitchen and fellowship hall facilities are available for meals, with a covered pavilion, campfire area and picnic space outdoors. With the James River so close by, arrangements can be made to enhance your week of service with a riverside cookout or canoe trip. Nearby Lynchburg offers other attractions and "free-time" activities for all ages.

Flexibility:    Retreats and camps of all kinds can be coordinated. Beulah is ideal for spiritual enrichment retreats and work camps. Throughout this summer, service projects such as home repair, local church renovations, improvements to the camp itself, inner-city mission work or gleaning can be arranged to fill your stay with

meaningful ministry. You can design your experience to fit the needs of your group. We welcome youth groups with adult leaders or families with younger children that want to share in a week of mission work (not all work projects are appropriate for younger kids, but many are wonderful for parents and kids to experience together).

Affordability: Since groups provide their own adult leaders,

transportation, meals and project supplies, we are able to offer very reasonable rates. The cost for lodging is $15 per person per night, with a $100 per night minimum. This cost includes help with coordinating work projects and assistance with the weekly schedule, if desired. Some district funding is available to help offset the cost of supplies for work projects.

Coordination:  We can help smaller-sized groups coordinate with each other to share the facility and create a camp.  This allows you to combine resources, supplies and leaders to make the camp experience a possibility for smaller churches.
